What is the Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon Decoration?
The Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon is awarded to Air Force personnel who complete a standard contingency deployment. The deployment must be a minimum of 45 continuous days or 90 non-consecutive days. The medal receives a gold frame if the personnel were in a combat zone and receiving hostile fire pay. Bronze oak leaf clusters are used to denote other uniquely different periods of time that the ribbon could be issued for.

The Stolen Valor Act of 2013 is a federal law that makes it illegal for any person to falsely claim to be the recipient of certain military awards, "with the intention of obtaining money, property, or other tangible benefit by convincing another that he or she received the award".This decoration is covered by the Stolen Valor act. Fraudulently claiming to have received a Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon can result in punishment including a fine, imprisonment for not more than one year, or both
